It all began in 2013 on a small island in Bora Bora.
Today, production takes place on Motu Temahu, a small islet in the lagoon of Bora Bora.
The seawater used is drawn from far offshore, where the nearest civilisation is thousands of kilometres away, ensuring exceptional purity.
As a result, the salt is naturally rich in minerals and trace elements essential for the human body.
Born From the Heart of the Pacific
Bora Bora Sea Salt and Tahiti Sea Salt are two distinct brands born from one shared vision: to craft the purest, most natural sea salts from the pristine waters of French Polynesia.
Bora Bora Sea Salt is harvested on the island of Bora Bora, while Tahiti Sea Salt is produced in collaboration with local salt workers across Tahiti and its surrounding islands.
Our salts are hand-harvested using only the ocean, the sun, and the wind, continuing a tradition deeply rooted in respect for nature and island culture.
Every crystal reflects the untouched beauty of the South Pacific: its turquoise lagoons, pure trade winds, and extraordinary biodiversity.
How It All Began
Fabienne, originally from Switzerland, moved to Bora Bora and noticed that no sea salt was being produced in French Polynesia. Her father, an engineer, set up the first test production. She sent the initial harvest to a laboratory in France, which confirmed exceptional results: the salt was rich in minerals and remarkably pure. And just like that, a new project was born!

The first clients in Bora Bora began selling the salt, which at the time was available only in a single Pure gift box.

Launch of Our Handmade Ceramic Jar
Collection we introduced our first collection of handmade ceramic jars, created to showcase the purity and elegance of our salts. Each jar was crafted by local artisans and filled with either our Pure Sea Salt or our delicate Tahitian Vanilla Salt. This collection marked an important milestone, blending authentic craftsmanship with the natural flavours of French Polynesia.
Welcoming Natasa to the Team
Natasa, originally from Canada, moved to Bora Bora and soon became an essential part of the Bora Bora Sea Salt team. Bringing her international background, passion, and dedication, she joined the adventure with enthusiasm, helping the project grow and continue its story on the islands.
Launch of a New Flavour
We introduced a new flavour crafted from two iconic Polynesian ingredients: ginger and curcuma. This vibrant blend combines warm, earthy notes with a hint of tropical spice, creating a salt that enhances both savoury and gourmet dishes. Inspired by local traditions and island-grown produce, it quickly became one of our signature creations.
Production Expansion
In 2019, production expanded significantly and was relocated to Motu Temahu in Bora Bora. This new site offered ideal natural conditions for harvesting our salts, allowing the team to increase capacity while preserving the purity and artisanal quality that define our products.
Partnership with Air Tahiti Nui
Bora Bora Sea Salt proudly partnered with Air Tahiti Nui, the national airline of Tahiti. This collaboration marked an important milestone, allowing our products to be showcased internationally and shared with travellers discovering the beauty and flavours of French Polynesia.
Launch of the Ultimate Gift Collection
We introduced the Ultimate Gift Collection, a premium assortment designed for those seeking the finest flavours of French Polynesia. Beautifully presented and carefully curated, this collection brings together our most beloved salts, offering an elegant and memorable gifting experience.
Welcoming Jean-Pierre to the Team
Jean-Pierre Saab, who moved to Bora Bora in 2012, joined the Bora Bora Sea Salt team and brought valuable experience and enthusiasm to the project. His dedication and island-born passion helped strengthen the team and support the continued growth of the company.
Launch of Tahiti Sea Salt
Tahiti Sea Salt was launched as a collaborative project uniting the salt workers of Tahiti and its islands. This new venture marked an important step forward, with additional production sites installed in Puka Puka and Rangiroa, two atolls in the Tuamotu Islands of French Polynesia.
Launch of Bora Bora Bath Salt
We introduced Bora Bora Bath Salt, created to bring the magic and serenity of the Bora Bora lagoon into every home. Made from our pure sea salt crystals, this relaxing blend allows you to enjoy a soothing bath infused with the essence of French Polynesia, no matter where you are.
Beginning of International Exports
Bora Bora Sea Salt began exporting its products internationally through a distribution point in France, allowing the brand to reach customers in countries such as Germany, the USA, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and more. Through our online shop, www.boraboraseasalt.com , we now deliver worldwide, making the flavours of Bora Bora accessible to customers across the globe.
Launch of the World’s First Champagne Salt
In 2022, we developed and launched the world’s first Champagne Salt in partnership with Barons de Rothschild Champagne. This unique creation blends our pure sea salt with the elegance and refinement of a prestigious champagne house, resulting in an exceptional gourmet product that embodies innovation, luxury, and the spirit of French craftsmanship.
First Export to Japan
In 2023, we reached a major milestone with our first export of one ton of salt to Japan. This achievement marked a significant step in our international expansion and highlighted the growing global demand for our artisanal sea salt.
Introducing Tahitian Chili & Polynesian Lime
In 2023, we introduced two vibrant new flavours: Tahitian Chili and Polynesian Lime. Inspired by local ingredients and island traditions, these blends bring a bold, refreshing twist to our sea salt collection, adding heat, zest, and a true taste of Polynesia to any dish.
Launch of Our Salt Grinders
In 2023, we launched our own line of salt grinders, designed to highlight the natural crunch and purity of our sea salt crystals. Practical, elegant, and perfect for everyday use, they offer a fresh and refined way to enjoy the authentic flavours of Bora Bora, Tahiti, and her islands.
Exclusive Collaborations
We also introduced several special edition products to celebrate meaningful moments and collaborations. These included a limited “October Rose” edition supporting breast cancer awareness, as well as a unique partnership with professional surfer Michel Bourez for the Olympic Games in France and Tahiti. Each edition was designed to honour important causes and highlight the spirit of French Polynesia on the global stage.
